MP Lyndon Lewis Seeks Answers on Staffing, Appointments, and Salaries of Government Cleaning and Security Employees.

lyndonlewis23102026PHILIPSBURG:---  Member of Parliament (MP) Lyndon Lewis, representing the Nation Opportunity Wealth (N.O.W.) faction in Parliament, is seeking greater transparency regarding the staffing levels, formal appointment status, and remuneration of cleaning and security employees within the Ministry of General Affairs.

MP Lewis has formally written to the Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina, requesting detailed information on the number of cleaning and security employees currently employed within the Ministry of General Affairs, the departments to which they are assigned, and the number of employees working without a formal National decree (Landsbesluit).

MP Lewis also seeks clarification on the gross monthly salary ranges of employees in both categories, excluding allowances and overtime. According to MP Lewis, this information is essential to ensure transparency and accountability in managing public-sector employment and resources.

MP Lewis also expressed concern over complaints he has received regarding the working conditions of some cleaning and security employees. The complaints suggest that certain employees in these fields may be carrying excessive workloads, placing them at risk of exhaustion and burnout.

“I caution that the well-being of these workers must not be overlooked. Cleaning and security personnel perform important functions in maintaining a safe, clean, and properly functioning government working environment. Their contributions deserve recognition, fair treatment, and working conditions that support their health and well-being.” MP Lewis stated.

The concerns raised warrant clarification from the government regarding staffing levels, the distribution of responsibilities, and whether sufficient personnel are available to meet operational demands.

MP Lewis emphasized that accountability and fair treatment are essential to ensuring employees are properly appointed, appropriately compensated, and given manageable workloads.

MP Lewis stressed that the information will help Parliament get a clearer picture of the current employment situation within the Ministry of General Affairs and determine whether further attention or action is needed.

“The public-sector employees, especially the cleaning and security employees, deserve transparency, fairness, and respect, and concerns affecting their employment status and working conditions should be addressed in a timely and responsible manner.” MP Lewis concluded.
