MARIGOT:--- Saint-Martin’s search for a flag representing the territory’s identity has reached a new stage, with 42 designs submitted to the My Saint-Martin Flag competition and a public consultation scheduled for October.
The Collectivité de Saint-Martin announced on October 2 that the competition, launched in August, officially closed on September 30. A jury will now review the entries and select ten finalists before inviting residents to participate in a public vote.
The process will ultimately narrow the field to three proposals for the final selection stage. The flag's official installation is scheduled for December 7, 2026.
Residents to help shape the selection
The jury will present the ten selected designs to the public, giving Saint-Martin’s population a chance to express its preferences and help determine which three proposals advance.
The project calendar identifies the October vote as a public consultative vote. It will therefore contribute to the selection process rather than directly determine the winning flag.
The release does not specify who will make the final decision among the three remaining proposals or detail the criteria for that final stage.
The project will announce dates and participation procedures for the public vote through its official channels.
Collectivité thanks participants
The Collectivité thanked everyone who submitted a design, shared information about the competition or encouraged others to participate.
It described the response as a collective mobilization around the territory’s identity, recognizing the involvement of both entrants and those who helped promote the initiative.
The Collectivité’s Direction de l’Action Culturelle leads the project and oversees the process from submissions to jury review and public consultation.
December installation remains on the calendar
With submissions now closed, attention turns to the jury’s shortlist and the arrangements for October’s consultation.
The announced timetable places the official installation on December 7, leaving the coming weeks for the public vote and final selection process.
Residents can follow forthcoming announcements through the project’s @MySaintMartinFlag accounts on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
The next announcement is expected to explain how the public can participate in choosing the designs that move forward—a significant step in deciding the symbol intended to represent Saint-Martin’s territorial identity.
