PHILIPSBURG:--- Police arrested one suspect Friday evening, September 25, following an attempted armed robbery in the Rhine Road area. A second suspect remains at large.
According to the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM), two armed men approached two people who were walking in the area and allegedly searched them for money. The men fled in a vehicle after the victims raised the alarm.
Responding officers spotted a vehicle matching the description provided and followed it. With assistance from other police units, they attempted to stop the vehicle. Its occupants abandoned it in Simpson Bay and ran toward the beach.
Officers pursued them on foot and apprehended one suspect, identified as I.L.A. Officers could not locate the second suspect. Police seized the vehicle believed to have been used in the incident and confiscated a firearm for further investigation.
I.L.A. was arrested on suspicion of attempted theft by means of violence. The investigation remains ongoing.
