Police Response to Causeway Jump-up Incidents during Carnival.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) analyzed the incidents occurring during the
Causeway Jump-up event held on Saturday evening, March 16th, 2024, commencing from the Kimsha Beach area, as part of the Carnival festivities. The evaluation revealed several concerning incidents,
including two stabbing incidents and a shooting incident.

One victim, who sustained injuries from a stabbing with a broken bottle, was transported to the
Sint Maarten Medical Center for immediate medical attention. Additionally, another victim was reported to have been shot in the hand but later declined medical assistance from the SMMC and opted to seek treatment at the French Side Hospital.

The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) expresses profound concern regarding these incidents, which
marred an otherwise celebratory event. Our priority remains ensuring the safety and security of all
residents and visitors during Carnival and other festivities. We urge anyone with information related to
these incidents to come forward and assist us in our ongoing investigations.

In response to these observations, the police will closely monitor and address these issues
during upcoming road activities. We are committed to taking proactive measures to ensure the safety
of all participants and spectators.
