PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset and the Emma Foundation are partnering for the second annual Project Hope in Sight. In recognition of World Sight Day celebrated on Thursday, October 13th, 2022, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset joined the fight as an advocate for eye health, realizing the importance of vision and its impact on literacy and the role it plays for a child to have an inclusive learning experience, irrespective of their family social status. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset is supporting the cause by sponsoring 40 free eye exams. This initiative will be carried out through the local optician SXM Optical, who will assist with ensuring that the provision of urgent and quality eye exams is available to students who have registered with the Emma Foundation for new glasses.
“The Emma Foundation is excited to partner with the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset to assist children with typical and special needs through projects like Hope in Sight. The Foundation is asking all youth to #LoveYourEyes.”
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset and the Emma Foundation both see this project as an opportunity to focus the island’s attention on eye health as a local and global issue. According to Youth Service Chair Suenah Martis-Laville, “Both organizations would like to raise awareness of eye health amongst individuals, families, and communities and use the platform to influence decision-makers to prioritize eye health initiatives.”
The Emma Foundation thanks the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset and SXM Optical for their invaluable assistance, generosity, and partnership.
