The representatives of The National Ombudsman are Coming to Statia and Saba Again.

Earlier this year, the representatives were on Saba and Statia and received many complaints about the government during the consultation hours. Did you miss this opportunity? Or have you been to the government with your complaint but you did not receive an answer? Then you will have another opportunity to meet with the representatives of the National ombudsman at the end of November.

The National ombudsman assists when something is going wrong between you and the government, for example, Rijksdienst Dutch Caribbean, the police or the The Public Prosecution Service. The National ombudsman investigates the proper functioning of the government, and whether all laws, regulations, and governmental procedure, are being executed and implemented correctly. The ombudsman reviews whether the government bodies act transparent and clear, respectful, concerned and solution-orientated, and are being honest and reliable.

In two weeks, the representatives: Armin Dorn and Gaby von Maltzahn, will once again offer support to the inhabitants of Statia and Saba. There will be consultation hours held in order to receive the inhabitants’ complaints. These consultation hours will take place on Tuesday, November 22, and Thursday, November 24. Every inhabitant with a complaint about a government body, that they cannot seem to come to an agreement with, can come to one of the consultation hours. Requesting the services of the National ombudsman is free of charge.

Consultation hour Statia:
• Tuesday, November 22, from 2-5 p.m., at the Public Library.
During this consultation hour the Ombudsman for Children will also be present. You can meet with the Ombudsman for Children with your questions about children’s rights and the work of the Ombudsman for Children. The Ombudsman for Children, Margrite Kalverboer, will be present from 2-3 p.m. Esther Vreeburg, a representative of the Ombudsman for Children, will be present during the entire consultation hour.

Consultation hour Saba:

• Thursday, November 24, from 2-5 p.m., at Windwardside, RS Accounting (near RBC Bank)

The Ombudsman for Children
The Ombudsman for Children will be on Saba from November 20-21, and on Statia from November 22-24. The Ombudsman for Children monitors whether children’s rights are adhered by the government, but also by private organizations in education, childcare, child welfare, and heath care. The Ombudsman for Children will use these visits to talk to children and youth to hear from them on how they are doing. In addition, the Ombudsman for Children will meet with representatives of various institutions.
