SCELL’s Women’s Island Network Presents a Passionately Pink Interactive Evening.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On October 14, 2016, The Women’s Island Network (WIN), a women’s organization developed by SCELL, The University of St. Martin’s School of Continuing Education in collaboration with the Positive Foundation, will take the community by a storm to introduce its first annual Passionately Pink Interactive Evening. The event is a 50/50 breast cancer information session and WIN fundraiser. Present at the event will be dynamic speakers, Dr. Henk Wassenaar, an oncologist at SMMC, Dr. Claudia Arregoytia, a research fellow at AUC and breast cancer survivor, Ms. Marcellina Loblack. In addition, attendees at this event will be treated to various opportunities to support the Women’s Island Network, in raising funds to assist women in the community in realizing their educational advancement and empowerment, through various raffles, as well as a basic services silent auction. There will also be prizes to be won for the three most creatively dressed individuals in attendance.
This SCELL/WIN event will be held at Divi Beach Resort- the Great Bay Room on Friday October 14, 2016. Doors open at 6:30, and the program will begin promptly at 7:00. The price of admittance is US$ 10.00, and tickets can currently be obtained from any WIN board member.
The Women’s Island Network (WIN), which is sponsored by USM’s School of Continuing Education and Life Long Learning (SCELL), encourages women ages 18-45 to pursue higher learning degrees at USM/UVI. WIN also unites, educates, and inspires women by providing experiences, such as the Passionately Pink Event, that greatly improves their lives.
Shelly Alphonso, President of The Positive Foundation, stated: “The Positive Foundation is proud that we were able to collaborate with the Women's Island Network (WIN) for the Passionately Pink Event. The event includes education, fun, and fundraising, a combination that the Positive and Elektralytes Foundation have found to be effective”.
Shelly Alphonso further added, "We are excited that SCELL/WIN has responded to our call to action and see it fitting to host this event which we know will encourage the women in our community to be breast aware”. She also went on to say, “While early detection in the fight against breast cancer is still our best protection, our call to action- "Feel it, Find it, Fight it!" reinforces the need for action from all of us".
