EXCLUSIVE: Supervisory Board of Attorneys suspends Brenda Brooks for a period of one year. (UPDATED)

brendabrooks03102020PHILIPSBURG:--- The Supervisory Board of Attorneys on October 2nd suspended Attorney at Law Brenda Brooks for a period of one (1) year. During the one-year period, Attorney Brooks cannot file any court cases, appear in court, or even work as a lawyer to defend clients in front of the courts.
SMN News understands that Attorney at Law Brenda Brooks who was convicted and sentenced to a period of two months had a meeting with the former Dean of the Bar Association Gert Hatzman where they came to an agreement that Attorney Brooks will take a six month sabbatical year whereby she will not appear in court. This agreement was made earlier in 2020 but the six-month sabbatical went into effect as of May 2020. Legal representatives for Attorney Brooks informed the courts throughout the region that she is on a 6-months sabbatical due to the conviction, despite her criminal case is before the Supreme Court.
The court also agreed to publicize the suspension due to her being a public figure. While the Bar Association has decided to suspend Attorney Brenda Brooks from the legal practice they turned a blind eye on former Prosecutor Cor Merx who was convicted as a Prosecutor but jumped over the legal line and managed to register as a defense lawyer without a certificate of good conduct.
In invited comment Attorney Brooks confirmed she was suspended and assured that she will be sending out a press release later today.
