VROMI Slogan competition winner revealed and campaign song released.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On Saturday, November 30, 2019, the ministry of Public housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) held a reception at the Government Administration Building on Soualiga Road where the winner of the slogan competition for its clean up and recycling campaign was announced, and the song for the campaign was officially released. The campaign is a strategy implemented by the Ministry of VROMI to encourage citizens and visitors to the island to do their parts in keeping St. Maarten clean.
“A slogan is what makes a campaign memorable, therefore we are requesting the help of the public in creating a slogan for the upcoming clean-up and recycling campaign” the ministry slogan competition poster read. Entrants had until October 28 to submit their slogan to the ministry. With over 250 entrants to the slogan competition, the ministry was tasked with selecting the most appropriate slogan for the campaign.
The winning slogan; “Be a part of the solution, reduce your pollution” was submitted by Lisa Freeland, who received her plague from Minister of VROMI Christopher Wever during the prize-giving ceremony. Miss Freeland gave a brief explanation as to how she came up with her slogan and thanked the ministry for the initiative. In addition, the ministry’s poster bearing the words of the winning slogan and the recycle emblem was unveiled.
The services of Darin “King Verse” Hodge were acquired to compose and produce the song for the campaign, which reflects the lyrics of the winning slogan. The song was officially released during the ceremony in the presence of the invited guests, among them Member of Parliament Chanel Brownbill.
In his address to those in attendance Minister Wever expounded that the campaign was established in an effort to instill pride of cleanliness in our people and to encourage and promote recycling, “starting right here at the government administration building”. “The campaign is an ongoing project of the ministry. The campaign song is expected to be played on all local radio stations, while a 30 seconds jingle is in the making” Minister Wever explained.
King Verse addressed the attendees and explained how the song was composed and thanked D Kullus, Tamilia Chance and Kenyo Baly who assisted in making the song a reality, by providing background vocals, rhythm, beats, and melody.
The campaign is expected to yield positive results while we all play our role in keeping St. Maarten clean.
