PHILIPSBURG:--- Owner of the Juan Bar, J.L. (53), was convicted again on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 for operating an illegal brothel in Cay Bay. In agreement with the demand of the Public Prosecutor, the judge sentenced J.L. to 36 months' imprisonment unconditional. J.L. will also execute the 12-month suspended sentence from the previous conviction.
J.L. was sentenced in April 2018 to 36 months conditional imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended and 2 years' probation for operating the same illegal brothel. J.L was released early, because of insufficient detention capacity.
Shortly after his release from prison J.L. resumed operating the illegal brothel between August and November 2018. Authorities once again discovered that J.L. was operating the brothel and shut down the bar in November 2018.
