Rudy Hoever Health and wellness fair.

mhfwellnessfair03042019PHILIPSBURG:--- The Mental Health Foundation looks back at a successful edition of the Lion Rudy Hoeve Wellness & Health Fair at the festival village last Saturday. At the booth of the foundation, information was provided about the foundation and its care products, but also on health and wellness in general. Unfortunately, when people think of their health, they do not automatically think about their mental health, but mental health is one of the most important parts of health in general. Physical & mental health are undeniably connected and influence each other. For example, when you would struggle with a physical injury, this could reflect on your mood and mindset. Vice versa: if you are feeling down it becomes harder to keep doing your exercises and to eat healthily.
Stress is something that everyone experiences and is an excellent example of the connection between mental and physical health. Studies have actually shown that prolonged stress can have physical consequences like high blood pressure, increased belly fat, gaining weight and a lower sex drive. On the other hand: nothing can reduce your stress level after a busy day or week like a good workout! For this reason, stress was the central topic at the booth of the Mental Health Foundation at the Fair last weekend. Besides information about the care products of the foundation, visitors could do a quiz to check how much they knew about stress at the MHF booth.
Case manager, Jessica Cannegieter describes the event as ‘’Lots of fun, with interested people of all age groups visiting our booth who asked good questions. What we heard most was: '' So stress is not bad for you?'' & '' But I perform well under stress''. Cannegieter explains that both are true: "Stress is a physical reaction of your body to a specific challenge or trigger, which prepares your body for whatever it is you have to do, and is thus especially good for you! Stress, however, has a negative impact when you stay in this state for a longer period of time! But luckily there are a lot of ways to reduce stress (like exercise, sleep, relaxation techniques, hydration, learn to say no etc. etc.) which will make you feel better and improve your overall health at the same time!''
