Committee established by chair of parliament illegal, no decision of parliament can be taken says opposition.

PHILIPSBURG: --- Members of Parliament from the opposition benches is protesting the action of the chairlady of Parliament Sarah Wescott Williams. The Members of Parliament both from the National Alliance (NA) and the United Peoples Party (USP) told SMN News that the committee that was established by Wescott Williams on Wednesday to vet the credentials of incoming UD MP Jules James was a committee that was established illegally. The MPs said on Wednesday both Public Meetings of Parliament did not have a majority to validate a quorum, thus that was not a meeting but a gathering.
The MPs said that the faction leaders of the NA and USP pointed this out to the Chairlady Sarah Wescott Williams who turned around and send the decision of the illegal committee to the Governor.
“In Parliament USP Faction Leader Rolando Brison asked the chair if an administrative decision will be taken and she said none will be taken, yet she sent the file up to the Governor to swear in the incoming MP.” Over and over MPS from the opposition benches have been highlighting the illegalities that are committed by the chair especially those that are in violation of the rules of order of parliament and the constitution of St. Maarten and the chair ignores them.
“There is a situation today where the chair of parliament would try to approve the decision from the committee that consisted of the UD and SMCP while there are four factions in parliament that are supposed to vet the credentials of the incoming MP. They said their intentions are not to railroad democracy but it is the only time the opposition has to stand up the chair of parliament with the alleged illegalities.
