Dutch Quarter Residence caught fire. (UPDATED)

~ Young child playing with matches caused blaze~

PHILIPSBURG:--- At least nine persons are now homeless due to a midday blaze at 255 Illidge Road Dutch Quarter.
SMN News learned that a little boy was playing with matches that somehow ignited the flames. Currently firemen and police are on the scene trying to put the blaze out. The family that are living in the home already lost their home due to hurricane Irma in September 2017.
Nico Van Zand from the fire department said that the firemen are busy trying to put out the blaze, he said so far they have not determined the cause of the fire, however, when the firemen reached the scene it was already too late to save the home. Van Zand said that the persons living at the home are now homeless and they would need shelter.

Family home totally destroyed by fire.

On Thursday April 26th at approximately 11.25 a.m. police patrols, Fire Department and Detectives were sent to the home of the Serrant family located on A. Th. Illidge road where a fire was reported. On the scene the investigating officers diverted traffic in order for the Fire department to put the blaze out. The officers also learnt that a young boy living at the home was in one of the bedrooms working on a school project which required the use of matches. He also stated that the a mattress accidental caught fire. The fire was put out by the fire department however everything in the home was destroyed. No one was injured during this fire.
