TelEm Group confirms restoration of telecommunication services to Simpson Bay, Lowlands customers Tuesday.

Pond Island:--- TelEm Group says Monday’s interrupted services to customers in the Simpson Bay and Lowlands areas have been fully restored following the replacement of a faulty part to a sub-station switch during the early morning hours, Tuesday.

The interruption began early Monday evening affecting the internet, Landline and mobile services from the bridge in Simpson Bay and extending to the Lowlands area.

According to Manager, Planning, and Engineering, Mr. Jed Carty, faulty equipment at the company’s substation in Simpson Bay was replaced as soon as the green light was given by the Princess Juliana International Airport for TelEm technicians to work on the switch without affecting airport operations.

“As soon as it was assured the Airport was not at risk we were able to replace the faulty equipment part and configure the switch accordingly,” said Mr. Carty.

He has meantime thanked airport officials for their timely responses on the matter and also TelEm Group technicians and engineers for quickly identifying the problem and reconnecting homes and businesses as soon as physically possible.

“We sincerely apologize to residential and business customers in the area and trust that they fully understand why we had to work together with the airport authority in affecting the fix for this unexpected outage,” said Mr. Carty.

The company said it is continuing to monitor the situation and does not expect any additional incidents at its Simpson Bay sub-station at this time.
