Philipsburg:---- Competent Communicator Alfonso Blijden will be representing St Maarten during the District 81 humorous speech contest scheduled for October 18th in Trinidad. Blijden was the only contestant out of the four Clubs on Dutch St Maarten. According to Toastmasters International requirements, he was still required to present his speech for the Clubs and had to qualify within the allotted time. Area 6 Lieutenant Governor of Education & Training ACB Jerome Gumbs functioned as the Contest Chair during the proceedings this past Tuesday evening.
St Maarten has had a contestant at the last three District Conferences. In May 2007, CC Mildred Smeins represented St Maarten in Jamaica. In October of last year, ACB Sinatra Rouse participated in the Evaluation contest in Guyana and ACB Jerome Gumbs represented the island at the Conference hosted on St Maarten. Area Governoar Rolando Tobias congratulated Competent Communicator Blijden as fellow members gave him some pointers to shrpen his presentation skills.
As a member of the Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club, CC Blijden will be presenting a speech entitled: “You too can be a success” and is very optimistic about his opportunity to represent St Maarten at the Toastmasters District humorous speech contest in Trinidad. St Maarten will be represented by a delegation of ten toastmasters at the Conference.
Liliane Baptiste was the lucky winner of a weekend stay at Pelican Resort after donating $5 or more towards the “Stronger Together Red Ribbon Campaign” in a red ribbon draw at Scotiabank this week. Scotiabank was the designated [RED] business for the month of September and the draw was one of their [RED] activities.
