Three Dutch Side Clubs and Anguilla Won Platinum Awards
PHILIPSBURG:--- Rebecca Low, Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 7020, which includes St. Maarten, is proud to announce that all of the Rotary Clubs of St. Maarten, Anguilla and St. Barthelemy were award winners at the annual District Conference held on Grand Cayman from April 28th – May 4th. All three St. Maarten Clubs won Platinum awards for their contributions in the areas of service projects, Rotary awareness, as well as winning district honors for their innovative Facebook pages and specialized projects for "youth-at-risk" and community initiatives. In addition, District Governor Jeremy Hurst named all six area Rotary Clubs "First Class Clubs", as well as Rebecca Low as "First Class Assistant Governor".
Maria Buncamper-Molanus, President of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten, said, "The club was recognized with a citation for public image, its Facebook page and a variety of other Rotary categories. I am most proud of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten's achievement of the Platinum District Governor's Award for overall community service, both on St. Maarten and internationally."
President of the Rotary Club of St Martin Sunrise, Angela Gordon stated, "I would like to congratulate the team for their hard work and dedication allowing St. Martin Sunrise to earn the Prestigious District Governor's Platinum Award and the Club of the month Platinum award amongst other awards." She described the initiatives of her club by saying, "Literacy initiatives and the welfare of children have always been key priorities. This year we were able to hold a panel discussion on how to educate fathers on parenting and also assist adults to improve their all-important reading skills. Additionally, she stated, "All the clubs on the island have come together and will soon be unveiling a peace monument dedicated to the public. This initiative builds on another key priority of Rotary – Peace and Conflict resolution."
At the Rotary Club of St Maarten Mid-Isle, according to President Sanjay Surtani, "Once again Rotary Mid-Isle worked hand-in-hand with Rotaractors (Rotary for young professionals) to host its third annual Seven Seas Spelling Bee. With records set in sponsorship and participating schools, we look forward building on this success and continue in the battle to improve youth literacy island-wide."
Maria Buncamper went onto say, "As the president of the sponsoring club of the Rotary Club of St. Maarten Mid-Isle, Rotary Club Saint Martin Nord, Rotary Club Saint Martin Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Anguilla, I am very proud of the much needed community service projects these clubs carried out during the year and congratulate, them for their achievements and on the accolades they received in recognition of their hard work from the Rotary District 7020. This further demonstrates how team work across club lines makes a big difference for the communities we serve."
