On Monday June 17th, the coalition partners sent a letter to Arrindell requesting that she call an urgent meeting before the close of this Parliamentary year. SMN News was provided with a copy of the letter Arrindell sent to MP's R. Laville, R. Marlin, G. Pantophlet, P. Illidge, L. Richardson, F. Richardson, H. Richardson, L. Laveist, and R. Samuel. Currently several members of Parliament are off island attending Parlatino meetings and the only two days that this meeting could be held is either on Thursday or Friday next week. Parliamentary recess is scheduled to begin on July 3rd.
According to well placed sources, the new coalition that has 10 seats in Parliament wants to replace the Chairperson of Parliament since Arrindell is the only person in the presidium that has not resigned from her position since the government fell in April. It is expected that Arrindell will be replaced by Rudolph Samuel who was sworn in as a Member of Parliament last week Friday by the Governor of St. Maarten dr. Eugene Holiday. It should also be noted that since the leader of the National Alliance William Marlin resigned from Parliament, Member of Parliament George Pantophlet has become the leader of the National Alliance faction.
SMN News has been reliably informed that Member of Parliament Roy Marlin responded to Arrindell's request on Wednesday where he clearly indicated to her that the meeting is to remove her as the chairperson of Parliament.
