Philipsburg:--- Former Democratic Party commissioner of labour, social and youth affairs Louie Laviest is to know his fate on Thursday February 11. Laviest's appeal case was tried on January 28 where he pleaded with the judges to acquit him of all charges.
Laviest also told the panel of three judges of the joint court of appeals that he was willing to do community service should the court find him guilty as charged.
The island council member was charged with forgery, bribery and the hiring of an illegal employee. He was sentenced by the court of fist instance to 18 months imprisonment and has been banned from public office for the next five years.

If laveist is found guilty again, he will probably go to the supreme court, because he remains in denial. He actually blieves he's done no wrong, eventhough the facts shows different. Don't worry Laveist you have new friends on your side, the NA, untill they also decide to give you the cold shoulder soon. Its called politics of which it seems that you still don't know much about. You are just running around like a chicken without a head hoping that some politician will find your head and attach it back to your body.

The supreme court will only look if the lower courts handled the case correctly. There's overwhelming evidence that he misused his postition. There's testimony that money was exchange for what the lower courts believe was for favours, fraud. The supreme courts will not even open his file.
I wish him all the best today and hope he learned something from this experience. If he's sent to prison, it will be another black eye for St.Maarten politics and will no doubt case a shadow on our elected officials.
He's been convicted already in the courts of 1st instance, so it now up to 3 judges to seal his faith. Will they show mercy or will they make an example out of him.

The verdict is in: The former Commisioner was fined fls5000 and a suspended sentence of 6mnts, banned from holding public office for 3 hrs and a trial period of 3 yrs. Mr. Laveist will have to give up his seat in the island council, not sure if that means he has to relincquish the post today.
Anyone has a job for an ETAO former student, playwright, actor former Commisioner, island council member and former member of Parliament of NA.
He needs a job, atleast for the next three years.
