Philipsburg: ---- The killers of Jean Claude Busquet are scheduled to appear before the court of First Instance on February 24 confirmed Prosecutor Rienk Mud. Mud said the suspects have confessed to the crime. Busquet was killed on December 12 at his business place the Bumper Car Fun Park in Simpson Bay.

SMN News learnt that the main suspect a Jamaican also killed two persons in his country and he only arrived on St. Maarten recently. The source said the culprit managed to get a job 24 hours after he arrived on the island at the Bumper Car Fun Park and that he killed his employer less than one month after. Asked about this Mud said he is not able to get information from Jamaica that easily. He said for his office to receive the police records of the suspect he has to file an international request.

Now that it is stated that the suspect killed at least two persons in Jamaica prior to him coming to St. Maarten questions are being raised about the island's immigration system. The source said that anyone including notorious criminals is allowed to enter St. Maarten as long as they have the required amount of show monies at the airport. "There is no background check on anyone coming here. Had they implemented the visa for Guyanese and Jamaicans that person would not be here. He would have been screened prior to getting a visa." The source said.

If this is not a wake up call, then I don't know what is going to wake up our authorities. The Lt Governor had requested from the central government years ago to implement visa requirments for Jamiaca and person from Guyana. Curacao's responce was that they didn't see the visa requirement for Jamaican as fiar, becuase Curacao was receiving tourist from that country, and they didn't want to loose that business.
I hope with the new separate status, we can now implement such visa's. The Jamaicans borough money from people, they then show it to immigration and viola, they are in for the long stay. Let's not wait for March, the controls have to begin.

I agree that visas have to be implemented for Jamaicans and Guyanse. Curacao should realize that SXM has open borders, French side, banana boats, cargo ships, you name it they find a way to walk or swim right into SXM.
The immigration system is too lax and understaffed.
It is being said that the killer was hired as a security guard at the bumper cars, he worked for a short time and after that he planned to kill his boss with another person.
We also have to place higher standards for security companies on the island-do they conduct back ground checks on all these loonies and unprofessional people they hire as security guards?
How often have we not heard that many robberies and home break ins was done with the a*sistance of the same security guards that are hired to watch the place?
Damn Beach gated community had several years ago break ins, the security guard was allowing his friends to know when the residents leave the house.
The break in at Le Grand Marche years ago was also set up with the a*sistance of a security guard- so we should really ask ourselves...
Who is controlling these security firms and who they are hiring to protect us?

I agree with the comments that proper screening of people should take place. At the same time these employers are anxious to employ illegal people to pay them little money because they don't want to pay the correct wage.Their cheapness are putting them and others in jeopardy.
The few years that criminals are being given make SXM a magnet for these criminals.
When people come here and commit crimes , jail them, deport them as well as the people who brought them here. It is their relatives sending the money for them to come in.

It's sad to know that Busquet was killed, by someone he tried to help by employing him. Let us first analyzed the limited information that was given to us by unverified sources. This Jamaican must be punished to the full extent of the law. However we should never hastily decide that the current increase in crime on sxm is only cause by Jamaicans and Guyanese. There are many factors that are contributing to increase in crime, namely bad Governance, lack of human personnel to investigate and solve crimes and the people of sxm not cooperating with law enforcement personnel just to name a few. Many of us are still living in the past or maybe I should say we are living in the shadow of the past, where most of the crimes were committed by foreigner. Our own sxm bred kids are exhibiting some criminal skills and show no fear of the law. It’s about time we stop blaming ever body for our failure and start developing some more parenting skills if not we are going to weep in dismay in the street of sxm love to all

If you think that its only Jamaicans and Guyanese committing these terrible crimes, you are mistaken. I am not defending my Caribbean brothers, its just that its time for a reality check. Just check who has to appear in court for one matter or the other and then your eyes will be opened.

I fully agree with the implementation of visas for these countries. Some of you are right by stating that the crime is not only commited by the foreigners alone, but they have a great influence in it. They come here, make friends with our poeple and youngster on the island. The minute something happens here in St.Maarten (crime), you hear them boosting that if this was jamaica or guyana, things wouldn't go like that, because their country full of "bad man" who don't fear the law and have no problem killing someone. Just go to the local barber shops and you hear them boosting. There is where a lot of info comes out. Check it out. They come here with their sick mentality , bad culture and customs. Spread it tru out our community and influence the locals. They are not to be trusted. Yes , there are some who really come here with good intentions and want to work. But the ones that are involved in criminal activities are spoiling it for the good ones. Let's start by implementing visas for them to be here. Let's start by getting tougher on these guys. Let's start to protect what is left of our little island. It is already over-run by foreigners. Stop excepting Tom, Dick and Harry with open arms, have them checked out first, just like the other big countries in the world. I don't want to sound like i'm dicriminating, because I too have foreign friends (some good and some bad), but let us pay attention to what is going on in St.Maarten.
