PHILIPSBURG:--- The Consulate of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Sint Maarten Guyanese Association (SMGA) would like to offer their deepest condolences to the family of Andrea Singh who died by drowning last weekend.
The entire Guyanese community and many others were deeply saddened upon hearing of the tragedy and would like to offer all support to Mr. Vish Singh and his two daughters on the passing of their wife and mother.
Honorary Consul Kim Lucas-Felix said she had the opportunity of meeting Mrs. Andrea Singh and can say that she was a young, talented and supportive wife and mother gone too soon. Many in the community have stated that Mrs. Singh was dedicated to her family, was a loving mother, and supported her husband in his business ventures.
“On behalf of the Government of Guyana, I would like to wish Vish and the couple’s two daughters, as well as their extended family, much strength at this time. Remember her fondly and she will forever live on in your heart,” stated Mrs. Lucas-Felix in a press release.
SMGA President, Mr. Malcolm Mickle said: “The Guyanese Association here on St. Maarten is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Mrs. Singh. We know it is never easy to say goodbye to a loved one in such a horrific way, but as an organization, we want to let you know that we do feel your pain and we sincerely sympathize with you.”
Chairman of NAGICO Insurances, Mr. Imran McSood and his family also expressed regret at the passing of Andrea. Mr. McSood said: “[She] was a pleasant hardworking lady and a wonderful partner to her husband in their construction business. Vish also played cricket and contributed to the maintenance of the ground. They were always peaceful friendly and law abiding.” He added that the couple operated the bar at the Cricket Ground for several years and did an excellent job.
We urge the Guyanese community to stand together with the Singh family as they grieve for their loved one.
Reports indicate that both Andrea and her husband were swept off the rocks at Back Bay, Point Blanche, while fishing last Saturday. Her husband was rescued, but suffered injuries and had to be admitted at the Sint Maarten Medical Center. Andrea is expected to be laid to rest this weekend.
