PHILIPSBURG:--- Workers of the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) decided to resume their protest action on this Emancipation Day as they are calling on the management of PJIAE to pay them all that is due to them.
The workers are demanding that they are paid the money that is due to them from 2017, 2018, and 2019, also their vacation pay for 2018 and 2019. Owed to the workers are the bonuses for the workers and their cost of living adjustments.
The workers said that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Brian Mingo promised to pay the staff when the company received the insurance money, but instead of paying the workers, the CEO chose to pay back government the 20M bridge loan instead of paying government part and also paying the workers what is due to them.
The workers said that if they don’t take a stand no one will stand for them, they said they decided to stand up today, on Emancipation Day in order to emancipate themselves from mental slavery. The protesters chose to stop everyone from entering the terminal building. The workers said they chose to stop passengers from entering the building because they are not inside the building to assist passengers.
The PJIAE strikers were chanting “Mingo” has to go and enough was enough, when asked why does the CEO has to go and what has he done the workers said that Mingo does not inform or involve them of the decisions management has taken. Besides the blocking of the entryway to the terminal building, the workers are also marching outside of the terminal building carrying posters.
