Rotary Sunset Supports K1 Britannia’s Mentorship Program.

rotarysunsetmentoring20032020PHILIPSBURG:--- The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset pledged its support to K1 Britannia’s Mentorship Training Program during the club’s general meeting held on March 9, 2020. In the presence of club members, guests and visiting Rotaractors, President Jaida Nisbett presented K1 Britannia’s Vice President, Priya Thirumur, with a monetary donation to assist with the costs of K1’s Mentorship Training Program.

K1 Britannia Foundation is a local charitable organization seeking to address the evolving social issues faced by youth on St. Maarten. Over the years, K1 has focused on rehabilitating and providing opportunities for vulnerable & troubled youth, while also helping children in foster care through its mentorship and foster care programs. K1’s mentorship program seeks to provide children in foster care with a mentor who can serve as a positive influence and role model. K1 has recruited volunteers from the community who will go through a series of training sessions that will equip them with the necessary tools to become mentors with the intention of pairing one mentor with one child in the foster care system.

Presently there are approximately 40 children/ teenagers in foster care on the island. K1 strongly believes that matching a mentor with each child and teenager will greatly benefit their growth, help them heal and go on to become well-adjusted members of society. Vice President of K1 Britannia, Priya Thirumur gave an overview of the mentorship training program and thanked the club and its members for their support. Ms. Thirumur encouraged members of Rotary Sunset to volunteer for the opportunity to become a mentor and she looks forward to the club’s continued involvement in the lives of the youth.

“Youth Service is one of Rotary’s avenues of service and as an avid supporter of the youth development on the island, our club is delighted to be able to assist K1 Britannia with the costs related to carrying out these training sessions. This is a great initiative that K1 has initiated and one that is necessary to address numerous concerns with the youth in our community. The board and members of Rotary Sunset would like to thank Ms. Priya Thirumur for being present and wishes the board, members and volunteers of K1 Brittiana Foundation much success with the mentorship program and with their future endeavors,” President of Rotary Sunset Jaida Nisbett stated.
