LU to remain on academic schedule with online system.

learningunlimited17032020PHILIPSBURG:--- The Learning Unlimited Preparatory School management on Tuesday said it has planned extensively and are well prepared to offer live, real-time, online classes for students so they do not miss valuable learning time during this unexpected break brought on by the Coronavirus. The “LU Online” system will go LIVE on Thursday, the first day of live online classes.

According to LU’s Principal Daunesh Alcott the school board and management have planned since hurricane Irma to be prepared for external shocks that could disrupt the school year. Prior to launching the system, testing and troubleshooting of the apps and programs with each teacher in their classrooms will be carried out.

Students are required to be online during this testing phase. This will allow the school to ensure that all students can connect efficiently, and understand procedures to connect with their class(es). Classes will remain as regularly scheduled, with breaks, lunches etc occurring at the same time. Only certain classes such as Physical Education will obviously not be offered online as this is not practical.

Alcott said the school campus will remain open for essential personnel only, and to allow parents to pick up textbooks and other curricular-related materials, as well as to conduct administrative business. “It is especially important for parents to pick up all required texts and materials from the classroom/locker by 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in order for Thursday classes to be productive,” he said.

All tutoring sessions, after-school activities, field trips, and extra-curricular endeavors are canceled until further notice. Parents will be able to contact the administration and the technology department staff with any concerns or needs at any time related to the “LU Online” program. School offices will remain open from 8:00-3:30 daily.

“With the schedule above as currently planned, and with the added understanding and support of parents, students, and teachers, the school will be able to fulfill our educational requirements and remain on schedule for this academic year. That means our school calendar as it currently stands will remain in effect, but of course subject to change if circumstances warrant. Along with everyone in our island community, LU hopes that this situation will be resolved sooner than later, and we can return to normalcy again,” Alcott said.
