jnobaptiste20112009Philipsburg: --- Relatives and friends of Jenifer Sorhaindo (37) have several questions concerning her mysterious and sudden death. Sorhaindo, the mother of a ten-year-old boy died at the St. Maarten Medical Center on Wednesday after her sister had taken her there for medical attention.

SMN News understands that Sorhaindo was eight weeks pregnant and did an abortion at a doctor’s clinic on Monday. Sources close to the now dead woman said Sorhaino had visited the doctor on several occasions during a one-week period. It is also alleged that the doctor who performed the operation may have left parts of the fetus in the woman. However, we were unable to confirm the allegation. SMN News managed to make contact with close relatives and friends of the deceased woman that is living on the island and they are tight-lipped about what happened.

The young woman mother Stephanie Jno Baptiste arrived on the island on Thursday wondering how her daughter died and who is responsible for her death. Jno Baptiste said she spoke to her daughter sometime around St. Maarten Day and her daughter informed her that she fell down on a sports field as she went with her son who was participating in sports.

The woman said Jenifer told her when she reached home that day she realized that she was bleeding from the fall. She said her daughter told her she went to see a doctor and he gave her some painkillers and told her the baby was still in tact. However, about two days later Jenifer called her again this time telling her she was under severe pain and was bleeding heavily. Jno Baptist said her daughter told her, she visited the doctor for the second time and this time the doctor had given her some suppository to use which was intended to bring the baby down (aborting the fetus). According to Jno-Baptiste, her daughter had a miscarriage.

The woman further explained that her daughter told her that the suppository was not working and that the pain was becoming more unbearable. The distraught mother said her daughter also told her she went back to the doctor who told her she needed to have a clean out(D&C) where he would remove the fetus. “My daughter told me the doctor told her if she did the procedure at the St. Maarten Medical Center (hospital) it would cost her $1000 but, if it is done at the doctor’s office then she would only have to pay $650.” Jno Baptist said her daughter was supposed to do this procedure on Monday but since then she never heard from her again. “I cannot say if Jenifer went ahead with the procedure or if she did not do it”. Jno-Baptiste said.

Asked if her daughter was working and if she was in possession of an SVB card the woman said her daughter was working for a well-established business but left the job some years ago and was working for herself at the time of her death. “Jenifer was doing manicure and pedicure, and she was also selling Avon products.” What she told me was that she did not have the $1000 to pay the hospital. Jno Baptiste a national of Dominica could not provide the name of the doctor whom her daughter visited on the island and which doctor it was that supposedly did the procedure at their clinic. A family member told this reporter they needed time to grieve and that they were going to see a gynecologist that is working at St. Maarten Medical Center in the hopes of getting some answers as to the circumstances of Sorhaindo’s death.

While money seemed to have been the young woman’s problem, it is not known if she was residing on the island illegally. Her mother said her daughter had been living on St. Maarten for a number of years and that her son was born on the island. SMN News also understands that the woman was in a relationship with someone of good standing.

SMN News contacted Dr. George Scot for a comment on the woman’s death. Dr. Scot who is currently off island said he was not aware of the case but promised to contact the hospital for the file, which was to be sent to him by email. Up to press time, Dr. Scot said he did not receive the file and promised to make a statement as soon as he gets the file. Asked if doctors on the Dutch side are authorized to perform abortions Dr. Scot said if any doctor even a gynecologist on the Dutch side is caught performing abortions they can lose their licenses. Dr. Scot further explained that if there is a case of emergency the doctors at the St. Maarten Medical Center would refer their patient to the French side where abortion is legal. He said when the procedure is over they at St. Maarten Medical Center would also take ex-trays to make sure nothing is left inside the woman.

SMN News also contacted Prosecutor Rienk Mud to see if he was investigating the case and if a report was filed by the St. Maarten Medical Center with the police but the prosecutor said, he had no knowledge of the woman’s death. He suggested that the family make a report with the health inspector who is based in Curacao.

SMN News will bring you more information on this case as it develops.

The deceased mother should ask her grandson if he ever went along with his mother to the doctor, and who he knows are her close friends(maybe she confided in someone) But only the boys close relatives should do this for now.

My condolences goes out to the parents and close relatives of the deceased

My condolences to the family.

The young lady did have a sister who took her to the medical center and was in a relationship with someone. Don't either of them know who her doctor was or which doctor she visited? I think they should be questioned before the son. Someone have to know something more than is being said.

I also feel the prosecutor office could do a bit more than waiting for a complaint to be filed in Curacao which will take, maybe, months to reach his office. Come on this was a human being, a mother and an expecting mother.

I am the niece of Jennifer...and to tell you the truth I am not pleased with what is being written here about my aunt. She did NOT have and abortion, okay, she did NOT. Get your damn facts straight, and it's all in your headline. It's things like this that get wrong news circling around. and you say 'smn understands that she had an abortion' she did not, she had a miscarriage. And for you to also add in fancy crap as if you had 100% solid information that she went to a doctor's clinic, did you ever assist her there? Where you the doctor at the 'doctor's clinic' who did the procedure? NO..you don't know anything, but yet you sit behind you computer and type out all this crap. Certain things should be left alone, she's already gone and we as her family are already going through so much. An illegal, in a relationship with someone of good standing! Is THAT anybody's business, ugh. What makes news nowadays is a shame. Wanting to make it seem as if respect is the first thing at hand when all it was was to get information and twist and turn and make up so you can get a good article. Hope you feel like you accomplished something. 'Cause to me you sure as hell did nothing but make my aunt seem like some broke, baby killer with no right to rest in peace.

To the relatives and defenders of Jenny:-

If Jenny was so innocent why she did not go to either of the two hospitals? Is it because she want to save the life of her unborn child? Why after one week of visiting an outpatient doctor she did not go to see another doctor or go to the hospital then? why she did not use contraceptive if she knew she could not afford hospital bills especially when sleeping with somebody else man?
And why no one who she related to knows what happen to her. Did she went to the Suckergarden bush doctor and did not want to talk? Instead of saying she had a miscarriage you all should tel the truth and most importantly dont try to cover up her deed now that she is dead. She is the one that chose the road she is now walking not ST. MAARTEN or this website.

I did my nails once or twice at Jenny's and I am saddened by her death... deeply saddened because this could of gone differently.

It can happen to anyone's daughter and that is the point? What we need to know is who is the doctors that tended to her? Why isnt her good friend talking? Where is the baby daddy in all of this? To make a correction if it is the person that I was told he was not married he is divorced.
Why is there so much secrecy around this case. An abortion took place, one way or another, the fetus had to be taken out of her so that is an ABORTION.

An autopsy needs to be performed on Ms. Sorhaindo because I beleive this is a case of non-intentional murder. Someone has to take responsibilty for this crime.

SXMners, mothers, sisters speak up this is wrong. To the niece of Ms. Sorhaindo, perhaps you are talking in grief but SMN-News reporter published a good eye opening article. Whatever the circumstances around this case, the facts need to be known, if there is nothing wrong then you all need to speak out. How dear you all be quiet about this injustice.

Thank you SMN New reporter for being Jenny's voice, someone has to speak out, and this cannot go unoticed.

Because this means that the next time something go wrong in those clinics then it will be covered up.

So continue digging for the truth, Jenny did not deserve to die like this.

IT IS A BIT DIFFICULT FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND SO I WENT TO SEARCH ON THE INTERNET THE DIFFRENT OF ABORTION AND MISCARRIAGE I FOUND THIS WITH THE LINK YOU CAN CLICK ON TO READ MORE.....

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is semi-protected until October 14, 2013.

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death.[1] An abortion can occur spontaneously due to complications during pregnancy or can be induced, in humans and other species. In the context of human pregnancies, an abortion induced to preserve the health of the gravida (pregnant female) is termed a therapeutic abortion, while an abortion induced for any other reason is termed an elective abortion. The term abortion most commonly refers to the induced abortion of a human pregnancy, while spontaneous abortions are usually termed miscarriages.

Abortion has a long history and has been induced by various methods including herbal abortifacients, the use of sharpened tools, physical trauma and other traditional methods. Contemporary medicine utilizes medications and surgical procedures to induce abortion. The legality, prevalence, and cultural views on abortion vary substantially around the world. In many parts of the world there is prominent and divisive public controversy over the ethical and legal issues of abortion. Abortion and abortion-related issues feature prominently in the national politics in many nations often involving the opposing pro-life and pro-choice worldwide social movements. Incidence of abortion has declined worldwide, as access to family planning education and contraceptive services has increased. Abortion incidence in the United States declined 8% from 1996 to 2003.[2]

Miscarriage

Miscarriage or spontaneous abortion is the spontaneous end of a pregnancy at a stage where the embryo or fetus is incapable of surviving, generally defined in humans at prior to 20 weeks of gestation. Miscarriage is the most common complication of early pregnancy.[1]

Spontaneous abortion
Main article: Miscarriage
A complete spontaneous abortion at about six weeks from conception, i.e. eight weeks from LMP

Spontaneous abortion (also known as miscarriage) is the expulsion of an embryo or fetus due to accidental trauma or natural causes before approximately the 22nd week of gestation; the definition by gestational age varies by country.[3] Most miscarriages are due to incorrect replication of chromosomes; they can also be caused by environmental factors. A pregnancy that ends before 37 weeks of gestation resulting in a live-born infant is known as a "premature birth". When a fetus dies in utero after about 22 weeks, or during delivery, it is usually termed "stillborn". Premature births and stillbirths are generally not considered to be miscarriages although usage of these terms can sometimes overlap.

Between 10% and 50% of pregnancies end in clinically apparent miscarriage, depending upon the age and health of the pregnant woman.[4] Most miscarriages occur very early in pregnancy, in most cases, they occur so early in the pregnancy that the woman is not even aware that she was pregnant. One study testing hormones for ovulation and pregnancy found that 61.9% of conceptuses were lost prior to 12 weeks, and 91.7% of these losses occurred subclinically, without the knowledge of the once pregnant woman.[5]

The risk of spontaneous abortion decreases sharply after the 10th week from the last menstrual period (LMP).[4][6] One study of 232 pregnant women showed "virtually complete [pregnancy loss] by the end of the embryonic period" (10 weeks LMP) with a pregnancy loss rate of only 2 percent after 8.5 weeks LMP.[7]

The most common cause of spontaneous abortion during the first trimester is chromosomal abnormalities of the embryo/fetus,[8] accounting for at least 50% of sampled early pregnancy losses.[9] Other causes include vascular disease (such as lupus), diabetes, other hormonal problems, infection, and abnormalities of the uterus.[8] Advancing maternal age and a patient history of previous spontaneous abortions are the two leading factors associated with a greater risk of spontaneous abortion.[9] A spontaneous abortion can also be caused by accidental trauma; intentional trauma or stress to cause miscarriage is considered induced abortion or feticide.[10]

Why all these bad comments and talks about someone who was so friendly and kind. And most of all she is not here with us to even defend her self. Why? if she is fooling around with somebody's man and if she abort the baby we are not the one to juge. Who is not fooling around with somebody's man and doing other things like this, cast the first stone. What we have to write and say about this story is to make more people/woman aware of these clinics, which one of them is the famous doctor F.. in Colebay and think verry carefully in whoes hands they are putting their life. Most of these doctors don't care about your health ones they get your money. and this one that I'm talking about is a verry weird guy. WOMAN THINK BEFORE YOU GO TO THESE CLINICS.

Oh my gosh... look at the negative comments people actually writing about Jenny. This is what does make me vex with some people.. ONLY when somebody dies u hear people with so many stories, I mean come on how could u actually say "why she did not use contraceptive if she knew she could not afford hospital bills especially when sleeping with somebody else man? ".. were u there in the room, was the bed..sheet or four walls to sayy she was sleepin with somebody else man..NO..people only sayin these things becuase this is what they HEARD from other people..nobody knows the factss correct yett they still talkin as if they was right there when everythin happend...now is when u hearing these stories, when she was alive none of these stories was no where to be found...I find people should say these stories when she was alive so that she can defend herself not now that she passed away and cantt defend herself. And why cant evrybody respect the family's decisions if they decide not to talk much about what happen? Even if they keep sayin what happen people still wouldnt believe them..first thing people is goin to say is "Oh there lieing..they just want to cover up the truth" They alreadyy saidd what they knew and people STILL dont believe them and sayin they are lieing and blah blah so whats the sense??.. I find evrybody should stop with all these negative remarks and spreading rumours and give respect to the family with the lost of their sister/aunt/daughter and mother..dont u think havin the lost of Jenny is hard enough for them??..Why do we need to add on more hurt with all these negative remarks and questions..
R.I.P Jenny
