PHILIPSBURG: --- Leader of the National Alliance Silveria Jacobs now Prime Minister of St. Maarten submitted a full slate of 23 candidates to the Central Voting Bureau on Thursday. It was the second of nine political parties to submit their list to contest the January 9th parliamentary elections.
Jacobs said the National Alliance did not call for this election instead, they were the ones asking for transparency and good governance. Jacobs in her speech said her government not kicked out of office post-Irma at a time when the people were in need.
Jacobs said the National Alliance is the oldest party and most stable political party on St. Maarten to which they are proud of. She credited former leader William Marlin for passing on the mantle to her since Marlin did not wait for a coo. Jacobs said that the last government fell since March 2019 and the people of St. Maarten knew that.
St. Maarten cannot continue with the instability, she describes the current coalition is a together team as St. Maarten has a National Alliance led parliament and government. She said her party is a Christian believing party with strong candidates, therefore, she is calling on the voters of St. Maarten to keep the team of hope in government after the January 9th elections.
Jacobs also thanked the Central Voting Bureau for their services and promised them that they will have her support as they execute their tasks and duties.
Speaking to reporters outside Jacobs pleaded with voters to come out and vote on January 9th because it’s the only way to bring about the much-needed stability on St. Maarten.
