hnsnPhilipsburg: --- The police department has reported that over the past five days there has been an increased in armed robberies. Police spokesman Ricardo Henson in a press release said that from November 3 to 8th several armed robberies were reported, most of which were violent. Henson said during this period at least 12-armed robberies were committed. The police spokesman said these robberies were committed by youngsters who are operating in groups of three to four persons.

The robbers Henson said are armed with handguns and or shotguns. The robbers are using excessive force such as beating their victims in their head with the butt of a gun and firing gunshots to overpower their victims and in doing so securing the success of the robbery. Chinese restaurants and supermarkets, parking lots of brothels and number offices just to mention a few of the businesses, were victims to these robberies.

The locations were Sint Peters, Philipsburg, Cole Bay, Middle Region, and Dutch Quarter. The last serious armed robbery took place November 7th when a worker from a popular lottery agency on the island was attacked and robbed of several moneybags. During this robbery, the victim suffered a serious wound to the back of his head and had to be transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for treatment.

The police are making an appeal to the public to get involved by giving the police information that can lead to the arrest of these culprits. The public can use the "Tipline by dialing # 9300. The entire communtiy should get involved to help reduce crime.

Look, people could keep jumping high and low that prison is not the solution for these young criminals. Since no one can give sensible suggestions as to what is, then I feel the police has to be given the free hand to deal with these punks in the manner they want to. Stop the stupid cries of "police brutality". Why is it o.k for these youngsters to damage other human beings but when the police use brutal force on them, everyone, especially their parents, cries fowl. Give them the same treatment as they do their victims.

Those innocent (good) youngsters (thankfully there are some left) who are on the road, especially after hours, should now learn to go home if there is nothing on the road for them to do (Go study or read a book). They hamper the police from identifying the criminals. A curfew has to be imposed. This is no more a joking matter. When criminals are picked up, lock them up for a lengthy period of time, even if they are 14 years old. If you want to act like a gangster then you should be treated as one. We have no psychologist, no psychiatrists, no school of correction. So what are we to do, accept these situations?

We are afraid to go out anymore (we are under curfew) but these idiots still come into our homes and businesses and harm us. Send those 18 and older to the army. Whatever happened to the draft system to the army? And lock up the younger ones for at least a year. Our kids are already lost, don't say: "going astray" anymore. They are hardened criminals. What will it take to pa*s an effective law about this crime situation? The Lt. Gov. or prime minister being hurt or killed?

I am actually starting to hate our "black" youngsters (10 to 22 year olds), I don't feel any compa*sion for them anymore. They are such fools and only damaging their futures and the image of what used to be a proud and constructive people. Is that what the authorities and their parents want? (for your info. I am a black sxm'r) DO SOMETHING NOW, "SERIOUSLY. Go back to the old days, it used to work. All this crap about time out and counseling is not working. The rule of the belt and the hard arm of the Law. That worked !!!.

"City of God" is the movie you all have to watch! Go rent it, buy it, or download from the internet. The movie shows what's coming to the St Maarten unless something drastic happens soon.
The movie should have won an Oscar, but those morons from the movie industry didn't have the balls to vote for it.
GO watch it! Teens join gangs, start selling dope, arm themselves with guns... and grow up hard-core criminals with no regard for human life. Watch the movie, it's based on real events! Even those few wo want to have an honest life are forced into gang wars themselves.

Hey, how come some adolescent guy from the French side commits a crime on monday, gets apprehender on wednesday, sent to Guadeloupe on Thursday, and gets sentced by a judge on Friday? 3 days since capture he gets the sentence! why does it take 6 month or more on the Dutch side? Not to mention that the French had to send the guy to another island to be in court! Dutch-side justice system is RE-DI-CU-LO-US!

BTW, you want to make a difference? Arm those Chinese with shotguns too. They are tough little bastards, they work hard to earn their living, and will do everything to protect their s**t. Give them each a shotgun, a few training lessons, and a license to shoot. A few dead gangsters later, come back and collect the weapons.

I am so sick of this nonsense. I'm tired of these people just disgracing the once friendly island. I think they should just die. They don't care so why must we. Then you have the ignorant parents just promoting their behaviour by denying that their child is a nuisance. They too should be shot. They're a waste of my tax money.

I fully agree with you "The time has come"

I had a bad experience two weeks ago were my home was broken into.
The robber was I.D. and all this was reported to the police. In the mean time the robber is terrorizing the neighborhood. He wasn't even pickup. Now the police wants people to call and give info about robberies. this is another joke, believe me.

Since there are no solution for these yougster I think what the goverment need to do the rock that you can see between Back Bay and St Barths make an island around because if NY could build a bridge between manhattan and Jersey I think we should ask Holland to help us make this island let them go free on it feed them 3 times a day throw meat around the island so the sharks could stay around there and let them try to get away because putting them in jail is not working we have to do something with these people
