EXCLUSIVE: Country held hostage as MP Meyers demands are too great.

~Sources say MP Meyers told coalition if his demands are not met then article 59 of the constitution will be invoked. ~

PHILIPSBURG: --- SMN News has learned via various sources that Independent Member of Parliament Franklin Meyers has been making some great demands if he is to continue supporting the United Democrats and St. Maarten Christian Party (UD/SMCP) coalition government.
The sources said that MP Meyers wants to have control over the Ministry of TEATT and the Ministry of VROMI, meaning Minister Stuart Johnson and Minister Wever will have to be sent home so that the independent MP could appoint his own Ministers.
It is further understood that Meyers met with former UD leader Theodore Heyliger to discuss and it became clear that their differences are not reconcilable. The source said that Meyers already indicated that if his demands are not met then he will have the Prime Minister invoke article 59 of the constitution to dissolve the parliament of St. Maarten.
SMN News learned that Meyers is also speaking with other factions in parliament and his demands are that he wants two Ministries, namely VROMI and TEATT while he also wants PM Leona Marlin to remain in government possibly as the Minister of Justice.
At the moment, the country is in a stalemate while parties continue to negotiate through this non-meeting week. It is expected by next week if an agreement is reached or not then it will be made known in which direction the country is going.
