PHILIPSBURG:--- On August 31st 2019, the No Kidding with Our Kids Foundation hosted Sint Maarten’s first Mini EnviroF@ir where some of the environment friendly and community-based organizations on Sint Maarten came together to share information and awareness to the community as it pertains to proper waste management and the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
This event, organized by the No Kidding with Our Kids Foundation, was stemmed off from, The ASA’s Recycling Project: Steps Toward a Better Community”, a project they started just one year ago whose main focus was to educate and bring awareness to the community of Sint Maarten. This activity was one of their many efforts to involve, not only the children within their care but also the community, on their journey ‘towards a more sustainable St. Maarten’.
The organization has since then prided themselves on the fact that they have taken on this challenge to be better for the well-being of the country and ultimately themselves.
In addition, would like to thank the following organizations for participating in this project, it could not have been what it was without them, and for that, we are truly grateful:
Freegan Food Café, ArtCraftCafe, Tzu Chi Foundation, St. Maarten Scouts, Nature Foundation and Sara Bharawani, Founder of the Breathe Better Air Campaign.
It is through their participation we were able to spread awareness to approximately 30 community members during this event which was held at the Lion’s Civic.
The organization continues to be optimistic as they proceed deeper into this project and are hopeful that at the end, not only will the youth within their care but also members within the community make a decision to be more environment friendly to the best of their abilities, as quoted by the infamous Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
