PHILIPSBURG:--- As part of Rotary International core values, August signifies membership and new club development month as such the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset had the honor of having Mr. Rolando Tobias, Distinguished Toast Master (DTM), present to the membership on leadership and membership essentials. Many of the clubs on St. Martin have struggled with membership attraction and retention and as such, the board of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset, in specific, Club Administration Chair Shemaiah Fleming thought it best to ensure our members were well abreast in the tactics needed to retain our members.
The club currently consists of 48 members with two prospective members. There is currently a hold on membership attraction, as the club will continue to focus on the development of the club and its members as it has only embarked on its first year as of July 30.
“‘The key is to set realistic member expectations and then not to just meet them but to exceed them – preferably in unexpected and helpful ways,’ as Club Administration Chair Fleming quoted Richard Branson. I believe motivating and inspiring our members to become their best selves is the key to retaining our members,” Fleming added.
Mr. Tobias provided the membership with icebreakers, whereby the room was divided into three groups. Each group was presented with a task to list various points surrounding attracting, recruiting and retaining members; thereafter each group presented their findings. Mr. Tobias gave a dynamic presentation and the members were well entertained, informed and included.
The club would like to thank Mr. Rolando Tobias for the presentation, inspiration, words of encouragement and motivation to the club. We hope to have him back for another presentation within the near future. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at Carl N Sons Unique Inn and Conference Facilities in Cole Bay at 7:30 pm.
