FREE sessions at 2nd Caribbean Well-Being Conference.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Presenters for the 2nd Caribbean Well-Being Conference begin to arrive on St. Maarten on Friday, August 2nd. The general public, especially parents, have the opportunity to attend 3 sessions of the CWBC on Monday, August 5th at the University of St. Martin.

There will be two concurrent sessions starting at 6 p.m. The first session is entitled: Youth Alcohol and Cannabis Use in the Caribbean and Europe: The Role of Intentions and Substance use- Specific Parent-Adolecent Communication. Our very own Dr. Ivy Defoe facilitates this session.

The second session is entitled: Teachers: Awakening my senses for the early identification of child abuse and neglect. This session is relevant to all persons working in the area of child protection and those interested in learning more about this area. Ms. Clementia Eugene, St. Lucian native and lecturer at the University of Aruba, facilitates this session.

At 7:30 p.m., there shall be the final session for the evening entitled: Taking care of ourselves and others: Self-care, yes it is possible. Dr. Nora Gerardi facilitates this session.

The 2nd Caribbean Well-Being Conference (CWBC) will be held from August 5 to 6, 2019 under the theme: Fostering Resilience: Creating a culture of well-being in schools. The focus for CWBC 2019 will be on Teacher Well-being, Student Well-being, and Family Well-being.

The CWBC is a biennial conference that seeks to promote the positive development and well-being of children, parents, families, schools, and communities. The CWBC aims to inform and educate on best practices to promote children’s well-being by looking at the important role that parents, families, teachers, schools, and communities play in the promotion of well-adjusted, socially and emotionally competent youth.
