PHILIPSBURG: --- Ousted Minister of VSA Emil Lee has extended the contract for SZV Director Glen Carty for a period of five years with a salary of $28,000.00 monthly. Carty who recently submitted his letter of resignation made sure the salary he gets from SZV covers the two salaries he was receiving over the years, one from UTS and the other from SZV where he was working for 20 hours per month for NAF 25, 500.

Last year Lee extended Carty’s contract in September for a period of one year with the hope that a director will be recruited but instead of allowing the board to recruit a director Lee instructed the board to recruit an adjunct director since his intention was to keep Carty in the position for much longer. Renewing Carty’s contract prior to the vote of no confidence is indeed premature and illegal since Carty’s contract with SZV is still valid.
SMN News understands that Carty demanded a $200,000.00 payout if his contract was not going to be renewed along with a huge remuneration. Instead of the payout, Lee opted to renew Carty’s contract since he is the one dictating how Carty and his management team should drain the pension funds illegally to finance his hospital project.
SMN News learned that three persons made it to the final round of the selection process for the adjunct director’s position those are Sharine Daniel, current Chairlady of the Supervisory Board, Reginald Willemsberg, the current Chief Operations Officer and a third person it is understood from Aruba.
SZV has been busy victimizing patients that have to travel overseas for urgent medical attention, some patients are forced to stay in unhygienic hotel rooms for long periods even though they went to Colombia for a one-day checkup. Sources say SZV management team are getting kickbacks from Colombia since that country’s medical institution and hotels are making huge amounts of money from St. Maarten’s patients. Several patients on dialysis are forced to stay there for months since the Minister chose not to use his influence to have the local medical institution revamped.
Under Carty’s management SZV is running aground while there is a situation with conflict of interest that has not been addressed. Sources within SZV identified an employee of SZV whose husband owns the company that owes SZV millions, but the inspectors and controllers chose not to go after the company. The employee in question is the one that is responsible for sending bailiffs to delinquent companies but thus far she has not sent any bailiff to her husband’s company. Another conflict the source said is that certain politicians that own business or their political cronies that own business do not pay SZV one such company is a known garbage collector that is the right hand of a certain politician.

Dysfunctional Supervisory Board.

While SZV is heavily mismanaged over the years and the pension funds are being drained the members of the Supervisory Board even those that have legal knowledge and holds the bylaws of the company sat back and allowed the Minister to dictate to them or basically instruct them on how to oversee the company. The only Chairperson of the Supervisory Board that stood up to the Minister of VSA was Dr. Michel Petit who filed a criminal complaint against Carty and Lee.
Even more dangerous is the fact that the Supervisory Board chose to withhold the report they have in their possession on the phishing scam that robbed the company $500,000.00. That report should have been handed over to the Prosecutor's Office since Lee and Carty claimed a complaint has been filed even with the FBI but critical information is being withheld
SZV bylaws clearly state that an employee that holds a management position must inform the board if he or she had a second job. In the case of Carty, he never officially informed the board of his UTS job even though it is a public secret. Indeed, it is the Supervisory Board of Directors that recommended that Carty take up the Director’s position in the interim but at no time it was intended for him to spend a lifetime at the company on a part-time basis, at the time of the recommendation Carty was also on the Supervisory Board along with Jeroen Veen.
The current Supervisory Board of Directors at no point used that clause to remove Carty from the position even though he is undermining the company and the pension funds.
Besides that SZV is not in a position to further invest, however, yet the pension funds have been used to pay consultant fees, and also paid off VAMED in the hospital saga. Government owes SZV millions of guilders and are indebted to SZV for years and instead of Emil Lee making a payment arrangement so that SZV could be paid he allowed SZV to further invest in the Government Building making their debts even bigger at the expense of the pension funds.
While Emil Lee received a motion of no confidence on Tuesday evening it is not yet sure if SZV can be saved and if the motion came soon enough.
