~ Gout exploded in his system~
PHILIPSBURG:--- Suspended Member of Parliament Theodore Heyliger who is in pretrial detention has been rushed to the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for a medical emergency.
SMN News learned that Heyliger has been admitted to SMMC for doctors to run tests and determine if he would need to undergo surgery for a urinary tract infection he obtained due to having gout in his system way too long without medical treatment.
It is further understood that Heyliger refused to go and see his doctor because he did not want the prison guards to take him in shackles. Sources say that the Prosecutor’s Office did not want Heyliger taken to the hospital because he is expected to appear in court on Friday.
It is still unclear if Heyliger went to SMMC because he is refusing to be shackled. Sources are now saying that while Heyliger needs emergency surgery he was treated in an ambulance simply because Heyliger does not think he should be shackled when taken out of the prison walls.
SMN News further learned that a doctor visited Heyliger on Wednesday at the prison and warned prison officials that if Heyliger does not get medical treatment his life could be at risk. The source says the doctor insisted that Heyliger should be transferred to SMMC for surgery but that did not take place.
SMN News learned that Dr. Luc Mercelina is also advising Heyliger’s medical team that has been visiting him at the Pointe Blanche Prison. Dr. Luc Mercelina is an MP that ran on the UD slate and him being involved in advising Heyliger's medical team can create a situation of a conflict of interest or a semblance of a conflict of interest;
