Rotary Sunset Launches Little Free Library at Raoul Illidge.

rotarysunset01042019PHILIPSBURG:---The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset launched its second Little Free Library on the Dutch side of the island at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex in the presence of the National Sports Institute Director Mr. Maikel Cornet, as well members of the club.

The concept of the Little Free Library was initially introduced in 2009 by Rotarian Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin and the idea quickly spread throughout thousands of communities in the United States, with the goal of creating awareness on the importance of literacy. The Little Free Library is not new for the island of St. Martin, as Rotary Sunset introduced the first little free library with the launch on the Marigot Waterfront in December. The objective of the little free library is mainly to encourage more reading and to promote literacy throughout our communities.

The Little Free Library was sponsored by Loumi Administrative NV. Managing Director of Loumi Administrative NV and Rotarian Michelette Boasman in a brief comment expressed her gratitude to the club for allowing the opportunity to give back to the community. “One of the best ways to help our community is by giving back. It is my pleasure to be able to donate this little library, which members of the community both young and old, can benefit from. Raoul Illidge seemed like the ideal location to install the library as the location is easily accessible for all. There is also a daily flow of students and parents alike that can utilize the reading material. I would like to encourage parents and students to take a book, leave a book and read,” Michelette Boasman said.

The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset would like to encourage the general public to stop by any of the three little libraries on the island, take a book and leave a book. Community members are urged to donate books they are no longer using to either of the club’s little libraries. The club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Loumi Administrative NV for the generous donation and to the Director and members of the National Sports Institute and by extension the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex for their support.
