Rotary Sunset Celebrates World Water Day.

rotaryfootball27032019PHILIPSBURG:--- On March 22, 2019, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset celebrated World Water Day 2019 by distributing branded sport water bottles. World Water Day is an annual UN observance day, which is observed around the world in efforts to highlight the importance of freshwater. The month of March marks Rotary’s Water and Sanitation month, where Rotary Clubs worldwide engage in numerous projects and humanitarian efforts to address water sanitation issues in many developing countries around the world. The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset embarked on a mission to advocate the importance of hydration and drinking freshwater during various sports and recreational activities.
The club designed reusable sport water bottles, branded with Rotary’s logo and in Rotary colors, which were distributed to various sporting organizations and fitness centers around the island. The main objective was to provide reusable bottles, which were environmentally friendly and would further contribute to the reduction of single-use plastic bottles, a major environmental concern in society today.
The club also distributed 500ml bottles of water, sponsored by Heavenly Water, to various student athletic groups at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex to promote the importance of staying hydrated during sports activities.
“Water is a vital source of life; our bodies are made up of 60% water and it is said that a person can live for several weeks without food but only a few days without water. We live on an island where clean drinking water is accessible by the simple turn of our taps; however, this is not the case for many persons around the globe. Even our neighbors, Haiti and Venezuela, are facing challenges in accessing clean drinking water. We need to ensure that we practice water conservation and continue to advocate the importance of having access to clean drinking water,” President Jaida Nisbett stated.
The club would like to thank Heavenly Water & Distributors for sponsoring cases of 500ml water bottles and STM N.V. for sponsoring the shipment of the branded water bottles. The club hopes to increase the awareness about fresh drinking water to the public and looks forward to seeing the use of the branded water bottles island wide.
