Sint Maarten important market for MICE.

aucmice07032019PHILIPSBURG:--- The hosting of the First International Conference on Disaster Medicine and Hurricane Resiliency will take place on St. Maarten and more importantly in the Caribbean, once again confirms that St. Maarten as a tourist destination is an important market for MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions).

The conference is hosted by the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC), in partnership with Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (HMFP) slated from March 8th - 11th, 2019 at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC).

“The AUC conference and its partners are bringing together various stakeholders from disaster safety and the resilience movement.

“As our country moves forward in rebuilding, the country also has much to offer in terms of advice and in building disaster-resilient communities.

“At the same time, this type of tourism is very much welcomed because of the benefits to the national economy. I take this opportunity to welcome all conference attendees and I encourage them as much as they can to enjoy the ‘Friendly Island’ as much as possible,” Minister Stuart Johnson said on Thursday.

The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau will be providing welcome bags to the delegates of the International Conference on Disaster Medicine and Hurricane Resiliency.

AUC has confirmed 80 overseas attendees coming from 13 countries, including other Caribbean nations, countries in South America and Central America, and the United States, Canada, France, and the United Kingdom.

The conference will bring together physicians, nurses, educators, and other professionals to explore disaster medicine in the context of the threat posed by hurricanes and other severe weather events.

According to the Interim Director of Tourism May-Ling Chun, these types of conferences are very important as they increase destination awareness, increases visitor arrivals, and it gives the delegates an opportunity to return for a vacation.
