Sunday morning’s vehicle accident is being investigated.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Suspects R.P. (56) and R.A.P. (27) are currently in custody on charges of threats and assault following a head-on collision which took place near the Daily Extra supermarket in Cole Bay on Sunday, March 4, 2018, around 1:45 am, involving a black Hummer and a red Toyota car.
The suspects were arrested by the Korps Politie Sint Maarten (KPSM). During this incident a police officer was threatened, resulting in a warning shot being fired off by the police. An investigation is ongoing and in the coming days the suspects and witnesses will be questioned, as well video footage of the incident will be studied.
The Public Prosecutors Office is calling on anyone who may have witnessed this accident to come forward and give their recollection of the incident. As well persons who may have recorded this incident on their mobile phones are asked to make these videos available to the police.
The Public Prosecutors’ Office points out that criminal investigations conducted by the local police, with accountability to the Public Prosecutors Office, aim to establish facts in a case. The Public Prosecutors Office prosecute suspects if there is sufficient evidence to do so, in accordance with the laws of the Country of Sint Maarten and in strict accordance with the principle of impartiality.
Het onderzoek van het verkeersongeluk van zondagochtend is in volle gang
Verdachten R.P. (56) en R.A.P. (27) zijn op dit moment in verzekering gesteld voor bedreiging en openlijk geweld na een frontale botsing betrekken van een zwarte hummer en een rode Toyota, dat heeft dichtbij het Daily Extra supermarkt in Cole Bay, zondag 4 maart 2018, rond 1:45 gebeuren.
Het Korps Politie Sint Maarten (KPSM) heeft beide verdachten aangehouden. Er is tijdens dit voorval een politie-agent bedreigd en tevens is door de politie een waarschuwingsschot gelost. Het onderzoek tegen de twee verdachten is in volle gang en de komende dagen zullen getuigen en verdachten worden gehoord en zal onderzoek worden gedaan naar beschikbare video-opnamen.
Uit informatie blijkt dat op de plaats van de aanrijding veel personen aanwezig waren. Het Openbaar Ministerie (OM) roept deze getuigen op zich zo spoedig mogelijk bij KPSM te melden. Indien getuigen in het bezit zijn van video-opnamen met hun mobiele telefoon wordt ook gevraagd die ter beschikking van de politie te stellen.
Het OM benadrukt dat de politie onder verantwoordelijkheid van het OM strafrechtelijk onderzoek verricht, gericht op waarheidsvinding. Het OM vervolgt eventuele verdachten als er voldoende bewijs bestaat, in overeenstemming met de wetten van het land Sint Maarten en het beginsel van onpartijdigheid.
