Artcraft and Prohealth to offer art theraphy.

PHILIPSBURG:--- After the very successful Post-Irma exhibition on Saturday, February 17, 2018, in Front Street, the Artcraftcafefoundation, this time in a joint venture with ProHealth, is already preparing the launching of a new Irma-related endeavor: art-therapy.
Every single day, people are visiting a general practitioner with symptoms of anxiety, stress, and depression. These are the persons who somehow realize, what they went through and what that does to their mind, their behavior and their being. Some others do not even have time to think about their own feelings because they lost everything; their house, their work and the direction of their life. They just feel completely lost, because of the destructive impact of hurricane Irma and of its aftermath!
Traditional treatment is not always effective, which is understandable. This is not a common or ordinary experience, our community went through. This was a very devastating disaster, which made people look in the eye of death. Other approaches, out of the ordinary are needed.
Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses the creative process of making art to improve the person’s physical, emotional and mental well-being. The Artcraftcafé (Tessel Verheij/ art-teacher) and ProHealth (Roel Haakmat/ Counselor art-therapist) took the initiative to develop a special art-therapy program for the general public with the focus on vulnerable target groups that are hurt the most.
This special program includes two hours of very intensive, professional, individual and group guidance (an art-therapist and an art-teacher), all materials, a personal ‘Irma’ painting and a convenient location.
Anybody who is interested in or financially wants to support this program should contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Let’s help Sint Maarten’s people to enjoy living their own life again.
