PHILIPSBURG:---  Justice day will be observed worldwide on Monday, July 17th
The Justice Ministry in St. Maarten will be observing Justice Day this year under the theme “ Justice Prevails” with a number of activities involving the departments linked to the Justice Ministry.
The celebrations commence on Friday, July 14th with a meet and greet starting at 5.30 in the evening in the Festival Village.
The meet and greet create the opportunity for the workers of the various departments to meet their colleagues outside the working environment.
Some of the departments linked to the justice ministry are the Police Department, the Court of Guardianship, Immigration, the Detectives Department, Customs, the Prison, the Coast Guards,
The Prosecutor’s office and the Miss Lalie Center.
The Voluntary Corps of St. Maarten (VKS), the ambulance and fire departments do not fall under the Justice Ministry but are invited to join in the celebrations due to their close working relations.
The celebrations continue on Sunday, July 16th with a family beach day on the Great Bay Beach where the justice workers and their families will participate and compete in games such as dominoes, football, volleyball, and tug-of-war.
On Monday, July 17th, the celebrations climax with a church service at the Methodist Church on Front Street starting at 8.30 am, followed at 9.30 by a uniformed parade through the streets of Philipsburg ending at the Festival Village where an awards ceremony will take place. Awards will be presented to workers who celebrate 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service, after which lunch will be served.
Following the recently concluded successful “Justitiele Vierpartij Overleg” (JVO) held at the West Inn Resort, Minister of Justice Rafael Boasman and the justice workers have much to celebrate.
Justice workers in St. Maarten are joined by fellow justice workers around the world as they observe justice day 2017.
