Police report drastic spike in vehicular theft.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The Sint Maarten police force is currently reporting a drastic spike in the number of vehicular thefts on the island. With more than seventy (70) vehicles reported stolen since the beginning of the year, it is a definite cause for concern. With vehicles ranging from scooters, to cross bikes to cars to pickup trucks, it is obvious that almost any vehicle type can be stolen. For the month of June, there was a total of 32 vehicles stolen. The Sint Maarten police force is urging the general public to be extra vigilant with regards to your vehicles. Be sure to keep all documentation up to date, and verify that all recorded information matches that of your vehicles, as this information can help greatly with the investigation/recovery. What has become evident is that these stolen vehicles are being used for robberies and other criminal acts on a more frequent basis. If any unusual activity is noticed in your neighborhood, please call 911 and report this to the authorities immediately.
