Academy Crowns King and Queen Saturday .

academykingqueen12052017CUL DE SAC:--- Who will be the first St. Maarten Academy King and Queen to be crowned in close to two decades? This question will be answered on the evening of Saturday, May 13, 2017 when the school's Parent Teachers Foundation (PTF) hosts its long-dormant pageant in its gym hall.

Fourteen young scholars from forms one to six will be competing for the coveted titles and a host of great prizes, including scholarships from the School Board and the PTF, electronic devices, resort stays, jewelry, gift baskets, and more.

The contestants are Jheirhen-Armani France, K’nisha Zakkirya Radjouki, Brandon Antonio Blake, Declashey Deyoudel Jeffers, Shanine Lee, Shaneisha Shamoya Robinson, Beyoncé Williams, Jose Angel Cruz Nunez, Angel Morel, Shavelle Lawrence, Raheim Sylvester O’Brien Fleming, Russhawn Shirley, Kia Morton, and Dawud Chapman.

Among the segments are interview, talent, creative school wear, and evening wear. The sponsors are Blue Point, Sonesta Maho Resort, Shop & Take Electronics, Holland House, Penha, Vandrop, Angelic Touch, Pineapple Pete, Avon, Indulgence by the Sea, Telcel, and Beriut Authentic Cuisine Restaurant, Mark's Place, Orange Grove Pharmacy, Diamond's International, Sunset Beach Bar, Helena, OMNI, Northeastern Insurances, NAGICO, Windward Islands Bank, Domino's Pizza, UTS, and Rent-A-Sound.

The last St. Maarten Academy King and Queen pageant was won by Marlon Richardson and Claire Guyot back in the late 1990's - before any of the current contestants were born.

This is the second major activity being hosted by the PTF this year, the first being a highly-successful Family Cultural Fun Day. All funds raised will be used to further develop the school's ICT infrastructure; and encourage students to perform well academically, as each year, the PTF presents special awards to graduating students who make the Honor Roll throughout their school history, as well as to the top performing students of Forms 1 - 4.

The PTF's mission is to create a stronger bond between parents and the school, as well as between the school and students. We believe that this pageant will also help to build positive self esteem in our students and function as a platform for our school to present role models in our community. The two winners will be our ambassadors to embrace our motto of achieving, excelling, caring and learning during the 2017-18 school year.
