PHILIPSBURG:--- Prime Minister William Marlin in responding to questions posed by SMN News regarding the shutdown of government internet on Monday said that the Council of Ministers took the decision because they simply could not leave the internet of government-wide open any longer. Marlin said that the problem government is facing with its internet is much bigger than anyone would think, he said all sites were open and civil servants were visiting these sites and opening all sorts of emails thus infecting the network which then causes problems for the entire system.
Asked about the report about the two hackings and the report that had to be filed with the police and what is the status of that, Marlin said that all of those things have to be investigated. He could not say when the internet problems within government will be regulated but he assured that it will be fixed and civil servants will not get to visit all sites that may have malware. At the moment department heads are asked to send in a list to the head of the ICT department Michael Dijhoffz who will then determine if the sites requested will be whitelisted. While this process is ongoing several departments, such as legal affairs and even cabinets of the Ministers are being affected.
SMN News learned that at least two of government servers are being managed in Curacao, and those are the two which was shut down on Monday which crippled government departments for now.
