PHILIPSBURG:--- The Chuchubi Foundation has termed its Aruba Day Celebration this year as a big success. The morning service on March 17th, 2017 at the Philipsburg Methodist Church at 6:00 a.m. had over 125 persons in attendance. Rev. Dr. Meade congratulated the Arubans on their day and prayed for continued harmony between the both islands. The service was followed by the hoisting of the Sint Maarten and Aruba flags during the singing of the song and anthem, accompanied by Philipsburg Community Brass Band.
Although the annual dance was held on the same day of the Cause Way Jump Up, organized by the SCDF, the annual celebration at Port de Plaisance, which featured the Mighty Tattoo (Mr. Richard Quant”) of Aruba, was well attended. The highlight of the events was the Award Ceremony, held at SOIL Building at the L.B. Scot Road. This year the Chuchubi Foundation honored two well-known personalities of Sint Maarten, namely Ms. Grace Blijden (aka “Lady Grace”) and Mr. Fernando Clarke for their contribution in the area of Broadcasting and Culture respectively. Ms. Blijden was recognized for her almost 30 consecutive years in bringing music, news and recently informative programs on the Voice of Sint Maarten-FM 102.7, to the community of
Sint Maarten. Mr. Clarke was honored for his contribution in the field of culture, mainly in the field of entertainment. As customary, the honorees have presented a plaque, a basket and a donation towards their area of recognition by the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. William Marlin and the Honorable President of Parliament Mrs. Sarah Wescot-Williams on behalf of the Chuchubi Foundation.
All the events were filmed by Mr. Hubert Geerman of Balchi TV and will be aired on the local television station on Aruba. The Chuchubi Foundation wish, to thank all its supporters and corporate sponsors who helped made this celebration a memorable one.
