Rotary Club of St. Maarten hosts seniors lagoon cruise.

PHILIPSBURG:--- On Saturday, February 25th, approximately 20 Rotarians from the Rotary Club of St. Maarten assembled at the Explorer boat in Simpson Bay, all with one goal in mind: to welcome, appreciate and entertain our seniors and provide some outdoor adventure and fun.

The annual senior citizen lagoon cruise which was first started under the leadership of Past President Michael Ferrier is now in its 30th year and if anything more popular than ever before. Close to 110 senior citizens from the White and Yellow Cross, Home away from Home and Meals on Wheels enjoyed the lagoon cruise along with fellow Rotarians from the Mid-Isle club, Interactors from Milton Peters College, Learning Unlimited and visiting Rotarians.

In between the laughs provided by comedian Fernando Clarke, music and dance by the Jolly Boys band, the delicious food that was prepared by Mark’s Place was served to our special guests along with great conversation and plenty of Ponche Cuba.

It was a beautiful day full of fun, fellowship and relaxation for all involved.
Special acknowledgement to Russell Bell who has transported our seniors to the boat and back every year with care and dedication, ILTT and Faustin Ledee for his contribution of beverages and Carl & Sons Bakery for the huge cake.

Community service director Kishore Idnani assisted by Pierre Decelles, Stephen Thompson, Agnes Kapoor, John Caputo, Robert Judd, Jim Ferris, Stef Rumeser, Damu Rawtani, and many more were instrumental in coordinating this year’s event and ensuring that all on board made this Rotary signature event a smashing success for those precious to us all.

President Henna Budhrani would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and for their generosity in making this event possible year after year. “This is why we join Rotary; to be able to give back and serve the community and especially to those that have paved the way for us, our elders. “
