PHILIPSBURG:---On Friday, February 3rd representatives from VROMI, Windward Roads, Sint Maarten Concrete and Port Sint Maarten met with representatives from the Police Traffic Department. The main topics that were discussed were regarding material such as gravel, sand, and concrete that is spilled on the streets during transportation and left as is and not having it cleaned up. These spills are mainly caused due to the overloading of the vehicle which is illegal and sometimes causes traffic back-ups, leaving severe damage to the streets which finally lead to large financial consequences.
The Police will definitely be addressing this illegal act and also controlling the drivers of these vehicles who must have the required drivers’ license to operate them. Also as one of the main topics that were discussed is the hours that heavy equipment is not allowed on the public roads. These hours are from 06.30 a.m. to 08.30 a.m. and from 12.00 p.m. to 02.30 p.m.
These measures also apply to all persons and businesses that operate this type of equipment. Not adhering to these rules and regulations can lead to fines ranging from 500,- to 25.000,- guilders and finally the confiscation of the equipment.
