Angelique Helligar wins Lions Club Peace Poster Competition.

lions12012017PHILIPSBURG:--- Angelique Helligar, a 13-year-old student of the Charlotte Brookson Academy has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the St. Maarten Lions Club. The local contest was supervised the Lions Youth and Education Committee which is Chaired by Lion Carmen Lake.

Angelique Helligar’s poster was among more than 450,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the program to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere.

The winning poster was selected by Joe Dominique and Fabian Badejo along with Lions Club members Lion Carmen Lake and Lion Merlyn Schaminee for its originality, artistic merit, and portrayal of the contest theme, "A Celebration of Peace".

St. Maarten Lions Club President Davey Woods said he was impressed by the expression and creativity of the students from the Charlotte Brookson Academy, Methodist Agogic Center(MAC) and No Kidding with Our Kids After School Program. “It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I’m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their visions” said Lion President Davey Woods.

Locally, Helligar’s was awarded a US$ 200.00 cash prize while the first runner-up Milica Granger from the No Kidding with Our Kids After School Program was awarded $100.00. Thanks to Van Dorp Eddine,
Ms. Helligar’s school the Charlotte Brookson Academy will be honored for their participation with a gift certificate for school supplies from Van Dorp Eddine.
