SXM Reads Family Reading Night.

PHILIPSBURG:---- SXM Reads had another successful “Family Reading Night”. Over 15 families from Ruby Labega Primary School along with some other parents and children attended September’s Family Reading Night. Two books were read by two members of the SXM Reads committee Patti Maier and Melrose Lake. They demonstrated to parents how to make reading fun for their children.
After this demonstration, each family received a book to read together. The families really enjoyed the reading together. Reading together as a family is a really positive and fun activity and the families really enjoyed the session.
Each family received a book to keep and re-read and practice the family reading at home. Along with the book the families received a gift bag of stationary materials from Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise.
Family Reading Night occurs every month at the library. The purpose is to promote reading and increase literacy skills. We would like to thank Principal Jeffers, Student Councilor Maureen Hodge, Teacher Clark, other teachers, parents and students of Ruby Labega School for being the 1st school to participate in the Family Reading Night for the new school term 2016-2017.
The next Family Reading night is scheduled for October 20th, 2016. The General public is welcome to come in with their families and be part of our Family Reading Night.
“SXM Reads” campaign is focused on promoting literacy and supporting people with low literacy skills. The partnership of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, Sint Maarten National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Community Outreach Mentoring and Empowerment (COME), Rotary Club St./ Martin Sunrise. His Thursday, April 14th another nice and cozy family reading night will be held at the Library. Family reading is a fun way to promote literacy. All parents and their children are invited to come out and enjoy a fun-filled evening of reading. The family reading nights are an initiative of the SXM reads campaign which is supported by COME center, UNESCO, and the Rotary Sunrise club. SXM Reads encourages reading as well as family participation... Investing in reading and making good reading choices while bonding with persons who understand the need to read. Thursdays family reading night will take place between p.m. to 7.30 pm at the library, and bi –weekly henceforth. The event is free of charge. Each participating family will be rewarded with a free book and refreshments!
