Honor-our-Elders” Walkathon.

honorourelders02102016PHILIPSBURG:--- The Helping Hands Foundation and JCI St.Maarten announce that a Walkathon to Honor the Elders of St.Maarten will be held on Saturday, October 29. The starting and end point of the walkathon is the Elderly and Nursing Home in St.John’s Estate. The walkathon will be held in two distance categories to ensure a large number of participants. The walkathon will be concluded with a breakfast and several side events that both participants and the elderly residents of the home can enjoy. Detailed information on how to participate will follow in the weeks ahead.

The elderly may be the most forgotten citizens on our island who need attention, and voluntary support is very much needed. In total the Civil Registry has more than six thousand elderly persons registered which represents approximate one fifth of the population. More than sixty percent of St.Maarten’s elderly have a household income of ANG 1,500 or lower and twelve percent even have an income lower than ANG 500 a month.

The Helping Hands Foundation is a nonprofit organization which was founded in 1997 with the aim to enhance the well-being of and promote respect, acceptance and appreciation to stand on behalf of our senior citizens on St. Maarten.
JCI St. Maarten is non-profit organization of young active citizens dedicated to create lasting positive change in their communities. It was founded in 1950 as the local chapter on St.Maarten of the international JCI organization which is present in more than 100 countries.
