Minster of EYS expects written retraction from newspaper --- Ministry continues to work on various educational projects.

silveriajacobs14092016PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports Silveria Jacobs announced on Wednesday at the Council of Minister's press briefing that a certain newspaper made their own assumptions when she attended the bike ride in honor of teacher Bas de Haan who was killed on the Airport runway last week. The Minister said she was invited by a bike rider from the French side since she herself is a biker, she said she did not attend the bike ride in the capacity of a Minister or even as a representative of government as was written in the newspaper. She said that she did get a call and was given an apology but she is looking forward to the newspaper to publish a full retraction. She described the issues in the newspapers are very unfortunate since the teacher is from St. Maarten, and St. Eustatius and it is only normal that such a memorial service is held to bring about more awareness on how to use public roads.
The Minister went on to say almost everything is taken out of context now that there is an election, she mentioned the oath taking of teachers that have every right to be civil servants that were misused.
Jacobs further explained that her Ministry is working on various projects one being Technology in schools. She said most schools will be done in phases before they are fully equipped with all IT materials, however, the Prins Willem Alexander School which is now housed at Belvedere will be fully equipped since it is a much smaller school.
