Department of Communication and Univeristy of St. Martin make preparations for second lecture on Civil Law—Family Property, Inheritance, Estate Planning, and Division of Assets
PHILIPSBURG:---In preparation for their second lecture in a joint project, entitled, “The Law Matters To You,” the Department of Communication (DCOMM) and the University of St. Martin (USM) is bringing to the public another law lecture, this time on different aspects of Civil Law, in relation to the topic of Inheritance, Estate Planning, and Division of Assets.
“The Law Matters to You,” is a lecture series organized by the two entities, aimed at providing law and legal information to the general public.
Head of DCOMM Rodney Richardson is very enthusiastic that this second lecture on Civil Law will help to bring about much more awareness on the specific areas mentioned above.
"For many families and persons in our community this will be a great opportunity to gather pertinent information that may prevent possible conflicts in the future," said Richardson.
President of USM Francio Guadeloupe said about the impending lecture: “the key to making democracy on Sint Maarten a vibrant culture is making sure that the common man to be just as informed as the well to do on the rules, laws, and regulations of the country; Every St. Maartener has a right to be informed, and it is the duty of a university to do so.”

Public Notary Meredith Boekhoudt will be the keynote speaker for the second lecture. She has her own Civil Law Notary office and has practiced for many years on St. Maarten.
The event is scheduled at the University of St. Martin, room 202, on July 5, 2016 at 7pm. The speaker will give a 15-20 minute presentation after which there will be a question and answer period.
