Miss Mature Queen 2016 Promotes Literacy.

missmature22052016Cay Bay:--- In effort to promote literacy on St. Maarten, recently crown Miss Mature Carnival Queen 2016 Norrisa Anatol visited the Leonald Conner School in Cay Bay on Friday morning and read to the Cycle 1 Year 1 students for 10 minutes. This 10 minute reading activity stems from the “Drop Everything and Read” initiative that has been introduced by the Ministry of Education where everyone is encouraged to read for 10 minutes every Friday.
Anatol was so amazed by how the students were eager to know what the book was about. The students were asked questions after the reading as Ms. Anatol related the story to their everyday life. Anatol also encouraged the students to read as much as possible because it is very important. “Every child should be encouraged to excel in literacy inside and outside of the classroom. I would like to thank Tr. Charles Rollan for allowing me to read to his students,” Anatol stated.
Ms. Anatol intends to visit other schools on the island throughout her reign to promote the importance of literacy. “I urge everyone to take the time out to visit a school or library, read to our children and encourage one another to improve on their reading skills because literacy is very fundamental,” Anatol concluded.
